Bonus

As it turns out Bonus is a real bonus! A gift from our Adonis who has passed and Wichita a rescue female.

Wichita is a retired female. We did not have much information on her. She was a rescue dam that had a reputation of difficult births. We took her in and pastured her after she almost died during birth but produced a beautiful premature female cria we named Sunshine. Sunshine became "my little girl" when I had to care for her for almost 2 years. We had to put her down because of quality of life. It was one of the hardest things I have ever had to perform. Sunshine had the most amazingly soft fine fiber. Dianne made a sweater vest out of her fiber for me. I will cherish it for the rest of my life.

Somehow Adonis got into the female's pasture and bred Wichita without our knowledge. Unsuspecting we found Wichita pregnant and did not know who the sire was. It turned out to be Adonis. Bonus was born and we named him Bonus because she had a great birth and produced the wonderful male. Wichita is now pastured on a fiber farm with other retired females and geldings never to be bred again. We thank her very much for Bonus and wish her the best.

Bonus is a real bonus becase he took the best traits of both alpacas and is a legacy to them. We are so amazed by his conformation and fiber. Originally we considered gelding Bonus but are now having second thoughts as he has competed very well at the Southern Select taking a 6th out of 12 white males. We plan to show him again and let him mature more before our desision is made. He is like fine wine, getting better with age. His fiber is super fine and bright with Adonis' density and handle and staple length. Stay tuned for updates on the surprise male.
